San Francisco General Hospital Rechristened KFC Health Center
November 29, 2000
SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Officials at San Francisco General Hospital, one of the highest regarded medical institutions in the nation, announced yesterday that, effective immediately, the hospital will now be known as KFC Health Center.
Newly Designed Ambulance
Fast-food industry giant KFC, itself formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, is reported to have purchased the rights to the hospital's name for an undisclosed sum, and will retain them until at least 2015.
The news comes on the heels of similar changes in the world of athletics, where long-standing sports landmarks such as San Francisco's Candlestick Park and Detroit's Tiger Stadium have recently been renamed 3COM Park and Comerica Park, respectively, reflecting the increasingly widespread influence of corporate sponsorship on revenues.
Planned additions to the hospital include box seating, live adult entertainment, a full-service casino, a panoply of restaurants, and a 1500-seat O.R. viewing room.
